Regatta Recap
By nearly any measure, the CYA Sail West regatta went very, very well!
The weather was extremely cooperative, providing for competition in a variety of conditions: light winds the first day, medium winds on Saturday, and then strong winds with whitecaps on Sunday. All sailors enjoyed the weekend, and the competition was intense. CYA Sail West 2009 might well be the most rewarding and successful regatta that has been held at the Battlefords Sailing Club venue.
Thirty-two boats and 39 sailors competed in 5 classes of boats during the event. Competitors hailed from points across Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. That is the largest number of boats attracted to the Battlefords Sailing Club regatta since 2002, when the Club last hosted Sail West. Unfortunately, competitors from British Columbia were conspicuously absent. Despite the lack of participants from BC, Battlefords Sailing Club and SSCA members are very happy with the success of the weekend.
The organizing committee would like to thank the many volunteers from the Battlefords, Meota, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Regina and Vancouver who were instrumental in making the weekend a fun, safe and memorable event, along with local and provincial organizations who supported the event with financial contributions.
