7. Represent SK in Regional and National championships in recognized CYA classes.
8. Develop a strong sailing infrastructure through members, clubs,
and sailing industry.
SK Team Boats SSCA has boats available for team use. In minimal fee for charter is required, the boats available for charter are 2 29ers, 7 Lasers and 5 Bytes. The SSCA also has 6 420’s at its disposal. These boats may be used for racing and crew work. Priority will be based on ranking from the previous year. The boats may be moved within the team based on performance and attendance at the current years activity.
2008 Training. In province training will be conducted specifically at 2 sites (BSSC and SSC) with training also happening at 2 other sites during regattas (BSC and RSC). In province racing provides significant opportunities to work on fitness, racing skills and technique. Wednesday Night racing will continue to assist sailors in developing racing skills.
The trials for the Canadian Youths/CORK to determine funding and spots on the trailer are as follows;
May 10-11 BSSC, Training Camp #1 (Boat Handling)
July 28-29 SSC Annual Regatta, Ranking # 4
SSCA will support boat transportation and athlete transportation (in the van). Athletes that qualify for the National Youths/CORK are responsible for accommodation and entry fee. Priority will be given to Canada Games Classes
6. First Trials for Male Laser at 2008 PASC
8. Practice ducking boats, taking sterns, ducking drill
9. Work on downwind race/leeward mark rounding off of reaching drill.
10. Become better starters; work the line, and tendencies of the right side of RC.
11. Introduce formal speed work, and establish numerical ‘set up’ parameters.
12. Ensure quality time on the water, focused/simulated high-end racing.
13. Develop training partners and training groups, nurture relationships with MB/AB.
14. Encourage sailors to purchase their own equipment
15. Develop a Sport Science approach for maturing/mentor sailors for fleet enrichment
16. Race 420’s in Sunset series.
17. Promote ‘Free Sail”
2009 Canada Games Trials
The 1st trials and only trials in 2008 will be the first part of male Laser. This event will be contested at the PASC Annual regatta, Aug. 30-Sept 1. The points from the regatta including the drop race as prescribed in the SI’s divided by 3 will be the total each athlete has at the end of the event. The other trials will be in 2009. If any athlete finishes in the top 3 at the Open Nationals, they automatically qualify for the Canada Games for SK. If 2 boats finish in the top 3 at the Open Nationals then we will go back to closed SK trials.
