SAIL WEST, Battleford’s SC

Sail West 2009 was hosted at the Battleford’s SC, in Meota

3 strong days of racing, day 1 saw 4 light air races, day 2 had 6 marginal hiking races and day 3 had 2 strong wind races, ……..with fun reaching afterwards.

Bill Plaxton won 3 of the first 4 races and held on to win the Western Canadians. Barry Tee, was coming on strong at the end but just fell short for 2nd and Speed Swimmer/AB Canada Games trials 3rd place finisher Liam Quinlam finished 3rd again and top Youth. Peter McDougal has some boat drama with his bottom gudgeon in the strong breeze but still managed to hold onto top Master.

In the Radial, CST member Tanja Smutny, first, Sydney Byrns 2nd and Manitoba’s Youth Sailor Ross 3rd. In the 4.7 Ali Gill, Victoria Konantz and Emma Williams were the top 3. It is safe to say the 4.7 will be taking over the role once occupied by the BYTE. This rig with the Laser hull works very well for very light sailors.

Regatta organizer Mike Ritchie and his crew did another excellent job as hosts. Canada Games Course Race Officers Mike Heseltine and Ben Pickford ran Alpha and Bravo courses to the high standard they set at the Games.

Next event is the National Youths in Victoria.

Sincerely,

ML
