Lauri Olenius

Lauri Olenius is considered by many to be the father of Saskatchewan sailing. A professional forester, he immigrated to Canada from his native Finland in 1951 settling first in Northern Ontario and then moving to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in 1956. He was one of the founding members of the Prince Albert Sailing Club. In order to develop sailing in Saskatchewan he started building boats including the International Enterprise Class and the Tumbleweed, the latter his own design. He founded Mid Canada Marine.

Lauri passed away on December 30, 2009 at the age of 89.
